Lending a Hand
Tonight, as Heather and I parked on West St. for our coffee date at Brewed Awakening we were approached by a familiar gentlemen. As he lumbered towards me I relished the opportunity to lend a helping hand. He greeted us, and immediately asked if we could buy him a coffee. Without hesitation I agreed, and he said, ‘I will meet you at Tim Hortons’. I could have ended the conversation there, and told him we were not headed there, but I asked him if a coffee from Brewed was fine, and he agreed.
He noticed I was carrying a book in my hand, and told me he was reading a book about the sinking of the Titanic, and all the ordeals that took place afterwards. I mentioned the book I was reading, he seemed disinterested, and continued talking about his study of the Titanic. We entered Brewed he got his coffee, I paid, and he bellowed out, ‘Thanks!’ and went on his merry way.
It felt good to simply buy him a cup as I have been reading a lot of vitriol lately about this individual on a popular classifieds Facebook group. Folks, it doesn’t hurt to buy someone a cup of coffee. What does hurt is all the negativity people spew regarding individuals status within society. Next time, do yourself a favour, and if you are approached, buy him a cup, and you may find yourself in an interesting conversation.
Best,
k.
