Wow, Laur, this is so heady and heavy and cool, and something of an ode to more structured writing. Long live the citation! Not because I actually give a shit about the logistics of technical citation, but because citation signals a standing on the shoulders of giants. It’s a culture of paying homage.

What’s interesting is that some of the best writing I, personally, saw in initially coming to Medium was niche writing, writers writing in music publications, whereas before, outside of an online forum, I never read music pieces, least of all because of the writing. Wow, look at me now mom.

I think you lost me a couple of times since you take on quite a bit, but I do think you have reinvented the wheel here. For me, I had yet to read a piece that examined the relationship between citation, pop culture and the academic world.
