Kurt Weston’s work ‘Blind Vision’ consists primarily of self-portraits depicting the psychological, physical and emotional effect vision loss has taken on his life. Weston states that this work is to illustrate his journey of vision loss as well as his fears about becoming totally blind. He says that even though his sight is diminished, his artistic vision is enhanced.

Weston states that art has provided him with the opportunity to represent different aspects of his disability as a ‘political and social practitioner’. Also saying that “being disabled in society lends me a perspective on the experiences of marginalization, exclusion and forms of oppression.” Being blind has given Weston a unique perspective on life around him including the way the world treats people with other disabilities.

His work consists of self-portraits of his face pressed up against the glass of a digital scanner. He includes an array of photographic equipment as props in his photos to document his journey of photography in relation to his vision loss. All of these are named something to do with vision loss.
