Someone Else’s Rib
Nina Szarka

I love this poem! It’s a raw take on what it’s like to be a woman, no matter where you are from. I find the Genesis story to be such a parody sometimes. We women have been told over and over again about being born of a rib, yet clearly the true story of our equality was burned, never to be disclosed that we are equal. We came out of the ‘dust’ just the same. This explains the ongoing effects of that lie. The lie that binds us to ourselves and to men. Its the lie that makes us think less of ourselves as human beings and more as objects…and worse, to learn to live with it and enjoy it.
