This was an intriguing read. Sounds like you had an eye-opening experience from a client’s perspective. Although, I don’t think your ‘friend’ has the same perspective as you do. When money is involved, there is no kinship. It’s a business. Any chance of a friendship or relationship flew out the window for both of you the very first interaction…or should I say transaction.
If that woman met you in different circumstances, I highly doubt you would get to have sex with her. Whether or not she has admitted it to you, there is always at least one instance where she was exploited. Brothels take half their pay for room and board. She is exploited there, too. The fact that she is a woman and a mother in the Dominican Republic…trust me. She is exploited! Usually when a law is in process, that means it hasn’t happened yet. Until then, she stands unprotected by it while you get to go home and write all about it on the Internet. Laws are written for protection of rights. There is a reason why prostitution is illegal. It’s exploitation. Every grey area you throw in the mix is not going to change the fact that it’s wrong.
No matter how much respect you have for her, I highly doubt you will ever introduce her to your friends and family because of how you met. In that case, you are helping to exploit her along with the rest of these women you photographed on your trip.
