This desire to fit in at all cost and be liked may explain the sameness of America, which I wrote about this week. It’s as if people were afraid of originality, of their own voice and therefore chose to settle for the lowest common denominator.

Because it’s less effort and means guaranteed acceptance.

And as for piano not being cool, heavens, what?! That little kid would have been my hero! Then again, that’s the French way. Culture (which includes musical ability) = wealth.
