Farm to Child Program at Community Food Bank

As the chief executive officer of Innovative Senior Living, Inc., Klaus Axen focuses on the business development, finance, and construction aspects of several innovative senior living communities. To give back to his local Tucson community, Klaus Axen supports charitable organizations such as the Humane Society and the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona.
Committed to fighting hunger in Tucson and surrounding areas, the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona provides emergency services and educational opportunities that promote healthy living and eating. A Farm to Child program, for example, operates in low-income schools to introduce students to the process of growing food.
Established five years ago, the program creates garden spaces that act as experiential learning spaces, allowing children to plant, care for, and harvest fresh produce. Farm to Child helps schools build gardens, in addition to training teachers and food service staff in proper practices. Currently, 10 area schools hold the certification required to serve harvested produce in their cafeterias.
