I think it worth noting the definition of a counter-culture, which is “any group of people whose beliefs, values, styles, and attitudes differ from that of the prevailing culture.” More so, their “values and norms of behavior differ substantially from those of mainstream society, often in opposition to mainstream cultural mores.” That said, one doesn’t have to be put down in order to be “counter.”

I’ve personally interpreted the Hipster rejection of “the mainstream” in favor of the obscure and indie as falling within the counter-culture definition.

I think there’s a certainly a fine line and agree Hipsterism is certainly apart of the establishment. Yet their reject of said establishment paints a pretty muddy picture which I find so fascinating.
