The ALTIS Apprentice Coach Program: Olympic Edition (Part 1 of 8)
This blog post is the first of eight short posts that will be published over the coming weeks where I will discuss my personal take-aways from a variety of world-leading experts across multiple disciplines whom I met at The ALTIS Rio Olympic Games Holding Camp. This Apprentice Coach Program (ACP) dubbed the “Super ACP” included a panel of renowned guest speakers, including Dr. John Berardi, Kelly Starrett, Dr. Matt Jordan, Brett Bartholomew, Dan Pfaff, and myself — Dr. Jeremy Koenig.

The ACP is a self-directed, experiential learning opportunity which allows visiting coaches the freedom to interact, observe, and engage directly with their mentor coaches and world-class athletes as they complete a week of training leading up to the 2016 Olympics in Rio. You can read more about the details here.

I have been affiliated with ALTIS for more than two years, initially as an athlete in 2014 and now as a formal partner. What has inspired me most about ALTIS is that the organization has preserved its humility while assembling a training environment consisting of the best athletes and coaches in the world. This high-performance setting might intimidate the beginner coach, however at its core, ALTIS fosters a culture of learning, and it exists to help shape the sport we all love. ALTIS has a humble culture despite its unparalleled expertise and success. The most compelling thing about ALTIS is that it holds true to its mission which is: “to share experiences with those who want to learn.”

The blog posts to follow will focus specifically on the speakers who presented different aspects of human performance, including: performance genetics, nutrition, physiology, biomechanics, and psychology, as well as how each of these fields can be leveraged by the coach and athlete as they collaborate on specific performance goals. Since it is impossible to capture a comprehensive summary of all that took place in the week leading up to the 2016 Olympics in Rio, I have organized a summary of each topic examined by the expert panel assembled by ALTIS.
Specifically, I provide a bio of the speaker, some key takeaways, and the top tweets that were shared and re-tweeted on Twitter. I look forward to delivering this summary and I hope that you find it insightful and a gateway to learning more about this interdisciplinary approach to human performance.
