2K Overlooks WNBA Again
NBA 2K23 is set to release in less than a month. The latest news about the game comes about The W, the “MyCareer” of the WNBA, and with it comes some let downs for the mode. No doubt the mode will lack compared to the full scale regular MyCareer filled with cutscenes and famous celebrity appearances but I was expecting more to be added for NBA 2K23.
The W has some great aspects to the mode. Doing events, gain popularity, become an influencer, and upgrade your player based on your performance each game. Of course there is no cutscenes or anything of that nature. This looks to be the same for 2K23.
Community Goals
A new addition to the game is community goals where players can come together to complete a goal such as play 1000 games. The rewards for completing the goal are things like WNBA MyPlayer jerseys or some boosts for your player and team.
WNBA Jerseys
2K will be adding 60 WNBA Jerseys throughout the Seasons. Not much else to cover there.
Game Changers
Game Changers is a new mini challenge for your WNBA MyPlayer where you can get boosts by completing the goals. These boost consist of filling Takeover meter faster and extending the Takeover.
Contact Challenges
Yet another challenge added is Contact challenges where you can connect with other WNBA Players and Legends and complete their goals to get a player boost.
All Star, Commissioners Cup, League Expansion
Easily the best addition to The W this year is the addition of the WNBA All Star Game as well as the Commissioners Cup. The Commissioners Cup is a mid season tournament for those who are unaware.
Once you reach the maximum WNBA popularity Level 10, you will unlock 2 League Expansion slots. You will be able to create a team, logo, arena and add them to the league. This by far is the best addition the The W for NBA 2K23.
Closing Thoughts
Now I am probably one of the few who actually enjoyed playing The W on occasion in NBA 2K22 so I had high hopes for additions in 2K23. Unfortunately, It seems that 2K has only added challenges, challenges, challenges to boost your player. As I stated before, the Expansions, Commissioners Cup, and All Star game are the best additions. I wasn’t asking for much honestly. Some cutscenes that don’t even need VO, better interactions with players, cooler endorsements. I just wanted more DEPTH! It is clear that 2K is focused on the MJ aspects for 2K23 to overlook the WNBA once again.
