Shippers Already Demanding What Less Than 1% Of Forwarders Or Carriers Can Provide

Ten years ago, Apple launched their mobile App Store and the world quite literally changed. They were quickly followed by Google when they realised the huge impact that mobile apps were having on E-Commerce.

Jump to 2016 and we hit a significant milestone in the US. The combined traffic from mobile and tablet devices overtook desktop access for the first time.

In that same year, Comscore showed that mobile, with only 51.2 percent coverage was grabbing 65 percent of all digital media time, with mobile apps dominating that usage. In other words — more people across the US were using their phone to do business and were doing more things on mobile devices than on a PC.

The Future of Digital is Mobile

While the mobile trend took off immediately, it’s outside the US that mobile really took off. By 2020, new smartphone users will account for 66% of new global connections.

There are about 650 million mobile phone users in India, and just over 300 million of them have a smartphone. India is already a bigger smartphone market than the U.S. and second only to China.

By 2019, China is forecast to have 690 million mobile subscribers, over TWICE the entire population of the US

Developing markets will account for the largest share of new mobile subscription growth over the forecast period. Forty percent of new subscribers will stem from five markets: India, China, Nigeria, Indonesia, and Pakistan.

The Future of Digital Freight is Mobile

This begs the question, how can you be an international freight forwarder today without a mobile offering? The answer is simple — you can’t.

Imagine our surprise then when only yesterday we see Flexport customers on twitter complaining about the lack of a mobile app:

For a company claiming to “Connect the world”, yet neglect how the majority of us communicate, it's quite ironic.

Apparently “It’s coming soon!” though, so no sweat.

However, we can imagine its not at the top of their priority list right now, if the rumours are true that they are busy finalizing another nine figure funding round.
