Why this election matters | Michael Kotick for Congress

This election is important, and here’s why: For the first time in decades, we have a chance to take Orange County back from a politician who doesn’t think climate change is real and votes with Donald Trump 95 percent of the time. And if we can do that, we can finally bring some new thinking and accountability to Washington.

I want to expand the work I’ve done creating jobs programs for veterans here in Southern California. I want to pass laws guaranteeing the cleanliness of our air and oceans. I want to ensure that health care protections for people with preexisting conditions never go away. I know you want these things, too, which is why I’m asking you to get involved.

If you haven’t already, take two minutes to tell me what issues you care about by messaging me on Facebook. What are the issues you and your friends talk about over coffee? Is it the 3.6 million pounds of nuclear waste sitting there at San Onofre? Or the rollbacks the Trump administration is trying to make to our clean air standards? Seriously, I want to know about your concerns, because I’m running to represent you.

This is such an exciting opportunity. Think about it: For close to 30 years, we’ve had a do-nothing roadblock representing us in Congress. It’s not just about fending off this week’s Trump disaster — although that is truly important work — it’s also about passing laws that make our lives better (what a concept). Those ideas are out there and have been for years, but we need an advocate willing to fight for them.

I’m so excited. I hope you feel it too. Keep in mind that it’s not just about what we do here in Orange County — there are people fed up and getting involved in politics all over the country. We’re a new generation of leaders who refuse to get bogged down in useless political fights, because we know together we can do truly big things for this country. I can’t wait!
