I started by trying to find the origins to the name Kovan. Consulted the web, street name books but nothing showed.
Along the journey I discovered interesting history to the road names. I will re-tell their story.
Lim Ah Pin Road + Florence Road/Close
Along Lim Ah Pin Road is a series of landed properties, Lim Ah Pin Road Post Office and Lim Ah Pin Church of Christ, Singapore. There used to be Lim Ah Pin Clinic (opposite to the Post office) which was demolished in the 1980s.
A longer road next to it is Florence Road and Florence Close.
Florence Road / Closes is occupied by houses and Forentine condominum. There is a new condominium Florence Residence replacing the ex-HUDC estate soon.
Lim Ah Pin road takes its name from Lim Ah Pin (林亚柄) (1890–1943), “bee hoon” king, a rice vermicelli manufacturer. Florence Road / Close was named after his wife Florence Yeo (1887–1962). The couple built bungalows in the area.
