Idk if there is statistical evidence but all the best perimeter scorers throughout of history of the NBA have utilized the midrange area of the floor and they can score at different areas on the court. Of course if you are a good 3 pt shooter it helps you but I don’t think it is necessary to be a good 3pt shooter to be an elite scorer i.e. Dwade, Tony Parker, Derozan etc. I think all the analytics guys want everyone to play like James Harden (3s+layups). He happens to be above average at those two skills. (He does utilize the midrange area of the floor as well) Those other guys I mentioned are not. Again the game is played on a court not a stat sheet. The stat guys don’t take people skills into account.
