Will — can I just say, I think I love you (not in a creepy way!!). Thank you. Women need more men who are prepared to stand up and speak up like you. I’ve lost jobs to men less qualified and was actually told (kid you not) that they would have hired me had I not recently had a baby. And that my “place was at home” — that was more than a decade ago. At least I knew that discrimination was the real reason, otherwise it might have done my head in. I got better job anyway.
Fast forward 15 years to yesterday where I edited an older man’s slide deck that glorified the guys, sang their praises, etc including a recently disgraced, now jailed, former state govt minister. And every time a picture of a woman appeared, it was always a newspaper piece that used the headlines of lusty, busty or tart. It was just plain horrifying. And this had been previously and was to be presented again to a room of mainly young women. UGH! Not on my watch!!
These are the unspoken things that women are presented with on a daily basis that just are the culture we navigate within. It is tiring, depressing and just wrong.
So thank you for being tired of the crap. Blokes like you rock! And we need more of them.
