Scum Fuck Flower Boy Album Review

Im sorry it took so long friends.
Been doing some stuff and some thaannngsss but we back in buissness now, and Tyler has blessed my mental health with his newest masterpiece,
Scum Fuck Flower Boy.
Yes im choosing to call it it’s full name, the first two words normally get dropped because yknow, political correctness and all of dat. BUT NOT HERE MY GUY. Anyways, let’s start!
Track 1) Foreword. The song starts with an almost alien like sample, and Tyler’s raspy voice comes through.
Starting with the introspective lines, his asking questions about his finite fame/stardom. He wants to enjoy it while it lasts, live in the moment, and not have to worry about the “after”
This is actually my favourite song on the album. Just the whole way the song starts and how the beat kinda just ticks along, but Tyler also snaps on it.
In the second verse he has his more controversial lyrics, but this time its not about rape or killling someone, its much more personal.
Before this album’s release, the majority of his auediecne and most social media outlets, like complex or highsnobiety, were quite fixated on his sexuality, mostly for lines like these.
“ Shout out to the girls that I lead on
For occasional head and always keeping my bed warm
And trying their hardest to keep my head on straight
And keeping me up enough ’til I had thought I was airborne”
These lines insinuate that Tyler isn’t straight like everyone else assumed so it blew everyone’s mind. And then fans and people alike started pulling receipts and what not, finding tweets from years ago about him “coming out” or whatever. i personally chose to believe what he himself said about the situation, not what other random people could “prove”.
2) Where This Flower Blooms FT Frank Ocean.
“FLOWER BOY T, NIGGA DAS ME”
This made me really happy to seen Frank’s name up there. Anyone who has listened to Tyler’s music before knows that Frank and him are very good friends and even better collaborators. Bimmer, She, Slater, the list goes on.
Frank soothes our soul on the hook, singing, and Tyler really flexes his hip hop roots here, with a flow that is probably one of his top 5, including Telephone Calls and Goblin vs Martians.
Also, a true Tyler fan like myself, noticed an overlap in his production. The drums or hi hats or 808s or whatever that are used in the end of this song, are the exact same as he uses on the song Goblin, on his firstbut album, GOBLIN.
3) (technically 4) See You Again ft Kali Uchis
“OK OK OK OK OK OK OK O”
Tyler some how knows how to make a single line or word in a song, stand out and grab your mind and repeatedly smash your brain and ear drums until you cant stand still anymore. Considering he does his own production, he knows how to perfectly confuse our bodies. For the first 15 seconds you think this a really soft love song, and then Kali stops singing and the beat drops and you’re like “guess i’m twerking now” AND THEN IT CHANGES AGAIN AND YOU’RE LIKE “20 20 20 20 VISIIOONNNN”. very confusing to say the least. But nevertheless, amazing.
4) WHO DAT BOY ft A$AP Rocky
Since this is a single i aint gunna pop off to hard on this one, all i gotta say is.
Tyler’s production (AGAIN) some how, makes this song, legitimately creepy to listen to, the intro, when the synth is kinda just like creeping around, and then the string instruments slowly come in, and then the violin starts..idk strumming? Either way it has a whole scientific like, mad scientist type vibe to it, and that’sexactly what he made.
“ Dumb mothafucka, I’m a goddamn artist
You can give me some markers and I’ll draw you a closet
And you know that it’s GOLF, bitch, gonna make the deposit
Nigga fresh to death like he got dressed in a coffin”
Tyler basically screams these lyrics and it gets me so fucking hyped. and he’s actually making a pretty good point. Anything Tyler creates, you know it’s his, you know he made it, by how it sonically sounds, or what it looks like or what it does. It always reeks of T
6)Pothole ft Jaden Smith
Welp, if you’ve read any of my other work you know i fucking love Jaden Smith, so hearing this, i nearly passed out. Jaden’s lackdasicaly tackle of the hook, coupled with Tyler’s over flowing confidence and bravado, work together beautifully in my opinion. Alot of people didnt actually like how Jaden sounded like he didnt want to be there, but very obvsiouly he did.

I, too, thought this would never happen, but it did and it was amazing.
7) Garden Shed
This is the song that made everyone think he was gay.
The second verse is very, very literal with this. He literally says the Garden Shed is where he conceals his emotions, thought he still hasn't confirmed this, everyone thinks he is. The song it self, again, is amazingly produced by Tyler, it’s not my favourite, but the second verse, again, he pops tf off, so im giving respect where respect is due.
Boredom ft Rex Orange County and Anna of the North
Probably the most “drive at high speeds in the summer, windows down, singing along” song on the album. Boredom has a new best friend, and that best friend, is Loneliness. Rex Orange County’s almost monotone voice starts up the track with the simple instruction: “Find some time~ find some time to do something~” and as the intro crawls foreward we get more drums and cord progressions, coupled with some synth, Then tyler crashes throuhg with “BOREDOM BOREDOM BOREDOM BOREDOM BOREDOM BOREDOM BOREDOM BOREDOM”
i think my favourite line from this song is
“ Message me with some plans that are amusing as well
Cause I haven’t seen the exit of these walls since before this morning”
Tyler is saying that he wants one of his friends to hit him up with some plans because hes been in his room, most likely his studio, for a long while.
I AINT GOT TIME!
Tyler lowkey slaps on this weird, salsa, flamenco, mexican rap beat. He’s talking about how he deosnt have time for people who never fucked with him before, but now, he’s rich and famous, everyone wants a piece of him.
it really sounds like some mariachi shit with synths and a slapping bassline. and when the clapping comes in over the hook.
This song has another “controversial” Tyler line in it.
“ Next line will have ’em like “Woah”
“I’ve been kissing white boys since 2004"
Another blunt as fuck statement that he’s gay/bisexual.
But still no conformation so we wait.
“One me, two feet, three mmms
Four, five, six years ago sucked
Seven figure conversations with Converse finalized
’Cause Vans fucked up”
i really enjoy the wordplay in this part of the song because the beat also starts moving melodically to the words as well.
Tyler switched from Vans to Converse sponsorship because Vans had been his day ones but converse gave him more freedom with making the shoes, and more money. So he went with them instead.
911/Mr Lonely ft Frank Ocean
I really, really didn't even want to talk about this song.
Mostly because its so damn perfect.
I don’t have the words to fully express myself when it comes to this song. Basically, it’s Tyler’s best song to date, and of course, Frank’s on it. Everything Frank touches is gold, but when Tyler’s part of it its basically diamond man.
From the lyrical content to the song’s transitions to the melody and the beat and everything about this damn song is so amazing.
“HOW YOU DOING, MY NAME IS LONELY, NICE TO MEET YA, HERE’S MY NUMmmmmBEeeeeR…” Then the drums fucking kick 3 times and your ensnared in this song like a siren’s song….
Then Tyler comes in wit the fire, almost on cue (it totally was on cue it’s a fucking song), and then we go over to the hook, by Steve Lacy, who is part of the Internet and also lives up to his name with the silkiest voice i’ve heard in my life. AND THEN FRANK COMES ON WITH THE
“CHIRP CHIRPPPPP, CHIRP CHRIPPP WOKE UP IN THE BURBS BURBS WITH THE BIDS BIRDS” AND YOUR OUT FOR THE COUNT.
You think the song is over, Tyler hits another verse, and the transiton’s to Mr.Lonley.
“I CANT EVEN LIE, I BEEN LONELY AS FUCK……I BEEN LONLEY LONELY LONLEY LONLEY” another triple bass drop and tyler’s got you full submerged in the bassy syntyhs. A lyric that stands out for me, well its actually a whole chunk of the verse is
“Crashed the McLaren, bought me a Tesla
I know you sick of me talkin’ ‘bout cars (skrrt)
But what the fuck else do you want from me?
That is the only thing keepin’ me company
Purchase some things until I’m annoyed
These items is fillin’ the void
Been fillin’ it for so long
I don’t even know if it’s shit I enjoy (ohh)”
i ain’t buying cars like Tyler is, but i buy video games like they’re nothing just to pass the time, because they were something i loved/love. They’re also all i talk about, which bothers some of my friends because they except to talk about other things, more real things, but i cant relate. “that is the only thing keeping me company”, since you can’t always hang out with your friends, your things are what you can rely on more.
“Purchase some things till i’m annoyed,These items just filling the void” goes hand in hand with what i just said. As well as buying video games i also buy hats, shoes and jackets to an almost compulsory level. But it i dont even know if i like them that much, i just buy them anywayas because thats what i do.
Droppin Seeds ft Lil Wayne
Im actually not a big Lil Wanye fan, at all actually. But he actually bodies this track. Its a short, minute and 18 seconds where he drops a 16 but that’s about it. Flawless production from Tyler as well. Tyler chimes in quickly in the end, just enough to make his mark, then it segways into the next track.
November
I really enjoyed this track, very thoroughly. One, because its the most, hip-hop head track on the album, two, because he talks about reminiscing and living in the past because that’s where he feels the happiest/most safe, which i do alot.
On this track Tyler speaks about going back to “November” which isn’t actually the literal month, but it’s the last time he didn't feel all the pressure of being famous and all the shit that comes with being this rich and famous and successful.
Another line in this song
“And I’m only known for tweets more than beats or
All my day ones turn to three, fours ’cause of track seven”
Track 7 being Garden Shed, the most blatant observation of this.
Glitter
This is technically the last track on the album, i say technically because the actual last track has no words on it so its more of an outro than a last track..they’re not the same things…Anyways.
On Glitter, Tyler pitches up his voice and muses on about the person who he says he needs, and deserves to be with. Towards the end of the track though, he very obviously realizes that him and that person are not going to work out, so it bums him out.
The final track is called Enjoy Right Now, Today, and i think it has no words on it because you’re supposed to be finished sitting down, finish up taking it this beautiful body of work and start on your own self discovery adventure. Or at least something along those lines. Scum Fuck Flower Boy is always about Tyler’s own self discovery and the image of himself, to himself. I feel like that’s why this album is up there with his best bodies of work, because he’s truly being himself. He’s not being himself behind the muse of a character, or behind another artist, he’s being Tyler Gregory Okonma, Flower Boy extrodinaire.
