Kukai has become one of the most popular wallets in the Tezos ecosystem, and as Tezos evolves so does Kukai. Today, we are excited to announce a completely redesigned wallet — meet Kukai 2.0.

The Tezos network has seen phenomenal growth over the last few months, and as the Kukai team began to conceptualize new designs for Kukai it was important to keep in mind the needs of users and evolve alongside the Tezos network. The team at Kukai has been following the activity on Tezos closely, and we recognize this growth is primarily from DeFi and NFT marketplaces (especially Hic Et Nunc). In the first half of the year, HEN went from being brand new to the fastest growing NFT market in all of crypto–its growth has only accelerated in recent weeks with more and more people joining the platform to enjoy some of the great artwork on the Tezos blockchain.

As Kukai user growth has increased to match the growth in Tezos, we have to be conscious about what the user needs are; in general, users have shown a tremendous interest in NFTs, to the point where many users have 100s and even 1000s of NFTs in their wallets. The low fees on Tezos, combined with the independent artist community on HEN has resulted in the most exciting and user-friendly network for newcomers to the crypto space.

The new Kukai 2.0 NFT showcase

The goal for Kukai 2.0 is to be a wallet that new users feel safe and comfortable using; but also a wallet which gives avid DeFi users and NFT collectors a fantastic user experience. Tokens will now load faster, including animations, and the navigation of larger collections is significantly improved.

The new Kukai 2.0 DeFi token balances display

Tokens which are actively traded on decentralized exchanges, like the popular Quipuswap exchange, are now displayed together under the native tez token balance. Additionally, the current price in USD (support for more currencies will be added soon) is regularly updated for these balances.

For those that are completely new to the ecosystem, or who may just have an interest in exploring the ecosystem further, Kukai 2.0 now also includes a “Discover” tab–here users will be able to view some of the more popular applications in the ecosystem and click through to interact with them.

While the new look may be surprising at first glance, we expect users will find it intuitive and comfortable. Most recently, Tezos upgraded its protocol to double the number of blocks per minute. To keep pace with this upgrade, Kukai has improved its infrastructure as well. Tezos is just getting started and as it continues to evolve so will Kukai.

The continuing progress made by Kukai is only possible by leveraging the work of many independent teams across the Tezos community. For this major 2.0 release, we would like to give specific thanks to Tezos Commons (TC), Ecad Labs, and Baking Bad. These teams in particular have provided so much help and support we can not thank them enough.

Additionally, we would like to thank all the users who have provided feedback. This engagement with our growing community of users helps the Kukai team deliver a better experience for everyone.
