Good article and I completely agree. In addition to disconnect with family, etc.,I attribute much of the decreased education in public schools to the “Common Core” agenda which aims at memorization for test scores rather than critically thinking/questioning/challenging as part of the learning process. I think this is more prevalent in bigger city schools than in more rural schools in which the teachers and family are more connected with the students.
