Pace Volleyball Exceeds Their Win Total from 2015

When it comes to Pace athletics, a lot of attention goes to the football team and their consistent struggles. However, you do not have to look very far to find a successful sports team on campus. After Tuesday night’s victory, Pace women’s volleyball team surpassed their win total from all of 2015 at 15 and there are still nine games left in the season.

Before Tuesday night, the volleyball team was going through a two-game skid that saw them lose on the road to Le Moyne College and College of Saint Rose. However, the Setters returned home to the Goldstein Fitness Center and defeated the Molloy College Lions 3–1. Sophomore Claudia Fontanet, arguably the Setters’ best player, led the team with 17 kills.

It would be easy to chalk this up as an meaningless win against a bad team (the Lions are just 4–18 this season), but the Setters have been quite dominant in games at home or on a neutral site with an exceptional 12–2 record. Problems arise when they go on the road where they are only 3–4 this season, making their total win-loss record 15–6. Luckily for the Setters, the game against the Lions is the start of a three game home stretch which will include games against Stonehill College and Bentley University.

The game against the Bentley Falcons in particular may prove to be a challenge for the Setters because despite their losing record, the Falcons have won six of their past seven games in impressive fashion. The next volleyball game will be this Friday night at 7 p.m. where the Setters will face off against the aforementioned Stonehill Skyhawks.
