Dear Mark Zuckerberg
Susan Lyne

I can tell you why. There aren’t many Trump voters where I live, but I know a few and they’ve told me that they felt demonized, marginalized and were tired of being called racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, when all they wanted were better jobs, or a strict constructionist on the Supreme Court, or were against partial-birth abortion. So they just kept quiet on social media. Democrats say they’re champions of tolerance and safe spaces to express oneself, but those Republican voters didn’t feel safe. So they didn’t speak out as much on social media, or anywhere and flew under the radar, and only spoke out in the polling booth. If democrats continue with the same suppression of opposition points of view, I’m guessing they’ll do it again. And no change of algorithm is going to make any difference.
