Good observation. It does seem odd that powerful people are able to behave this way without any kind of fallout, unless our elite of the future ALL enjoy Trump-ian levels leeway. In the first Episode, the Director hints at a larger picture to all of this and it could simply be that the park and its investors can now influence world power through the “leak” of their character behavior. It’s the new lobbying, in a world where POTUS #46 Elizabeth Warren has outlawed campaign donations.

However, I’m more of the opinion that Westworld is still running through the motions of common sci-fi/alt reality tropes of “hey, people are fucked up when they think something isn’t real” that every AI series needs to go through to establish its world. It feels like this necessary thing that the show feels must happen before it can even get to what it wants to say.
