But wouldn’t your employer have been able to schedule you for 40 hours whether or not this law was in effect? You were rewarded for your willingness to work any schedule, but in the vast majority of service jobs, there are enough business hours to let any given employee work 40 hours per week and still not require clopening. It’s simply a matter of an employer being willing and able to assume the increased costs of full time employees.
