I generally pay $15–30 for very on sale jeans, but they last for years. I’m not really worried about price as a whole so much as price per use. $218 jeans are only expensive if you don’t wear them for the next ten years.
Of course, since fashions change, the cheap, lasts-a-season pairs are useful in that they’ll never go out of style (at least not before they unceremoniously fall apart in the washing machine). My trick to avoid that is to buy mostly classic jeans, or jeans that are uniquely styled and don’t scream Fall of ’15 or ’09 or whatnot. Also, if you can store pants for a few years, the ones that were trendy in 2010 can probably be worn again today.
