I have to assume that this guy is still stuck in a cycle of spending binges and debt. If you haven’t grown out of that sort of behavior by your late 30s, it’s probably never going to happen.
As for whether or not he has a partner to hold him accountable, I’m going to say no there, too. The only woman who would consider staying with a guy like this long term is a teenager with less sense than the author had at 18 or someone who shares his terrible understanding of money and his spending habits. No one else is going to shackle herself long-term to a man who’s afraid that money will burn a hole in his pocket (and who may well be one of those creeps who always dates teenagers because he knows that anyone older knows better than to be with him).
