I’m not following how the “Forward Dispatch” is “less fine” for work purposes.

Uber is being a bit creepy by trying to have its cake and eat it, too. Uber argues that it has correctly classified its workers as independent contractors in large part because those workers can theoretically work whenever they want. However, when Uber does things like institute bonus pay for driving certain hours and providing incentives for drivers to continue to work when they are ready to quit (and not even cash incentives), the company is exerting a lot of influence on when drivers work — or at least attempting to do so. I’d say it’s a classic Uber move, except in this case, Uber is actually making an attempt to follow the letter or the law and only violating the spirit.
