Yeah, the advice to cut out Netflix is pretty suspect. Netflix is one of the cheaper entertainment expenses out there. Heck, a night out at the movies costs almost as much as a month’s subscription (or more in areas with a high cost of living). If you watch one movie a week on Netflix, you’re already paying less than if you bought an equivalent number of movies from the $5 DVD section at Target. And if Netflix is the only thing standing between you and cable t.v., Netflix is obviously saving you money.

If you rarely watch movies or t.v., then it may be cheaper to buy individual DVDs or digital versions of your favorite shows, and maybe you’re so poor that you absolutely can’t afford Netflix, but in general, Netflix isn’t an extravagance.
