If a child has a speech developmental delay, they most likely have goals including multi-syllabic words.

Luckily, LA Speech Therapy Solutions offers speech therapy for toddlers that can help kids achieve their multi-syllabic-word goals.

If you find your child struggling with multi-syllabic words, don’t worry because it’s very common for speech therapy students. It’s important for toddlers with speech delays to practice multi-syllabic words because they exist in our everyday language. How many multi-syllabic words are in the last sentence?

Our speech therapy for toddlers specialist shares some speech therapy activities practicing multi-syllabic words:

Move to the Rhythm of Multi-Syllabic Sounds
If you can’t get your kids to stay still, this activity is ideal for you!

  1. Get your child to stand in front of a mirror, if there is a group have them stand in a circle
  2. Say up to 10 different words having them clap out the syllables
  3. Then have them say the same words while stomping
(Be creative! They can do any movement to help (jump around, pat heads, wave arms))

Multi-syllabic Paradise with a Pair of Dice
All you need is a pair of dice to play this with your children!

  1. Create a multi-syllabic words list for your kids to say (2–5 syllable words)
(If your children roll a 1 or a 6 let them choose the number of syllables)
  2. The first die will determine the number of syllables your child will say
  3. The second die will determine the number of words your child will say

Playing the Multi-syllabic Name Game
If you have more than one child, this game is more fun together!

  1. Create a list of 3–4 syllable names your child is familiar with
(Try the names of your family or someone your child knows)
  2. Say the names of the people they know while they clap out the syllables

LA Speech Therapy Solutions hopes these speech therapy activities to do at home will help your child reach their multi-syllabic goals.
