The largest of the Channel Islands, Jersey is a historically rich and intriguing Island; The area is filled with epic museums, great seafood restaurants and beautifully sandy beaches. Dates on the Island can quickly tot up to the hundreds, with such great food and culture available to visitors. So here are 14 date ideas, that are not only free but make the most of Jersey’s unique and varied beauty.

1. Ride a bike up to Corbiere Lighthouse

Grab your bikes and set along the three-mile route to La Corbiere. The trail there is well signed and very easy to follow, so you can take it leisurely. A great date idea for cyclists! There is a gentle climb up to the midway point and then a fun ride downwards to the coast. If you can time your arrival at low tide you will be able to walk the causeway to the base of the lighthouse.

2. Soak up the history in Liberation Square

Liberation square is a great place to visit to soak up the stories from of the end of the war. Thought provoking, emotional, and large enough to enjoy a flask of tea and some lunch. Take some time to wander and read the plaques together.

3. Sunbathe in St. Brelade’s Bay Beach

With long golden stretches of beautiful sandy beaches that trap the sun, this is a great date spot for a bit of sunbathing. Take some beverages and snacks, and spend a pleasant afternoon soaking up the sun in this beautiful bay.

4. Hike it out in Beauport Beach

A hidden cove along the stretch of St. Brelade’s Bay that is surrounded by pathways. Why not pop on your hiking boots, pack a sandwich and hike along the cliffs that line the small Beauport Beach? The climb up & down to the beach is a tough one, but well worth it for a memorable date with an equally energetic partner!

5. Explore the hidden treasures around the middle of the Island

Pack a lunch, slip on your hiking shoes and complete this 5 mile route to take in some of the best scenes in Jersey. Starting at the Jersey war tunnels, and creep along the spine of the Island. The walk is easy but exhilarating, taking in sights such as the centre stone and the lesser-known villages.

6. Climb down the epic steps to Portelet bay

This is an outstandingly beautiful location, accessed only by a narrow cliff path. The walk down to Portelet beach is fronted by the slightly daunting steps, but the journey down is worth it for some brisk yet beautiful views of the sea. A great location if you prefer a quieter beach and some alone time with your partner.

7. Go swimming in Jersey Marine Lake

This tidal marine pool in St. Aubin’s Bay was originally built to mark the diamond jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1897, and fell into disrepair. Now restored, the horseshoe shaped pool allows beach-goers to bathe in a protected area. Take a date for a splash in these historical and beautiful waters.

8. Take a camera to capture the picture-perfect scenery in Rozel Bay

Rozel bay is located on the edge of a small, pretty fishing village. Why not take a camera and spend an afternoon photographing the relaxed atmosphere around Rozel Bay together? The beach is more harbour like, but once the tide is out the light golden sands reveal themselves and creates some truly stunning scenery. Great for a creative date, combining a hobby with some time together.

9. Walk the causeway to Elizabeth Castle

Access to the attraction has a price tag, but luckily the stunning views and walk across are free. Wait until the tide is out, and stroll along the revealed causeway. Take a stroll with your date and explore the area. Just make sure you make it back across the causeway before the tide comes in or you’ll need to take the boat back!

10. Go rock climbing at Grève de Lecq

This is probably the most popular of the beaches, but with such a varying landscape in one beach, it’s easy to see why. For a more adventurous date, take your date climbing and cave exploring! If you can climb the craggy rock sides overlooking the bay, you will be rewarded with some incredibly stunning coastal views.

11. Have a romantic brunch at Sir Winston Churchill Memorial Park

This pretty, manicured park is located in St Brelade’s Bay and is open 24/7. Why not pack a breakfast basket and have an early date to enjoy the fresh morning air together? The park has many benches, gorgeous views and a large grassy area for picnics.

12. Go bird watching in the Wetland Center

Located in St Peter, this hidden treasure is great for wildlife enthusiasts and bird watchers alike. The hide contains observation windows, live cams and lots of extensive tunnels, so grab one of the provided pairs of binoculars and see what you can find.

13. Take a picnic to St. Catherine’s Woods

The most extensive woods in Jersey, there are plenty of pretty places to stop and take a picnic. The paths can get a little muddy, so make sure you wear suitable footwear. The views itself are worth it, as well as the opportunity to spot some busy wildlife!

14. Spend an evening stargazing at Noirmont Point

With a lack of light pollution, at the most southerly point of the Island, this is a fantastic place to have a romantic date gazing at the stars. Take a flask of something warm, wrap up in a few toasty blankets and take in the majesty of the unfiltered sky above you.
