WHAT’S IN A DAO?
LIT Project One set the tone by transferring the rights of a book to a reader and NFT owner, rather than to a corporation and major publisher. Now a ten-time New York Times best-selling author has already begun working with his new publisher: A LITizen!
Now what else can we do as a community to break the old, unfair, and exploitative model?
The answer: Invert the power structure and put more power into the hands of the people.
With Cozomo de’ Medici’s bequeathal of half the LIT supply (currently valued at over 200 million dollars) for the formation of a DAO, this is now possible.
Combined with LIT’s commitment to innovating in the cultural and NFT space, it’s also possible to perform at a higher level of quality than the thoughtless throwaways that most corporations are filling the space with. Most of them are designed as promotional arms of the old model, not to support the new model.
It’s time to overthrow the old, predatory models of cultural ownership and distribution.
A few weeks ago there was a list of “kind of DAOs” trending on crypto Twitter. The list ranged from investment DAOs to collection DAOs. What wasn’t there was the one LIT is building: A Cultural DAO.
One thing that’s true about culture is, no matter how hard you try, you can’t buy it. To really be culture, you need to co-create it.
Culture is the new, the cutting edge, the undiscovered, the unspoken. Being part of the culture requires you to trust each other, trust the process, and trust your personal taste and interest. It’s being first, a leap of faith.
It’s doing more than anyone expects, repeatedly. This has been the fundamental premise of LIT since it was launched in stealth as a memecoin.
LITDAO IS BORN
LITDAO will not be an investment DAO, although we will invest. It will not be a collection DAO, although we will collect. LITDAO is for investing in LITizens as tastemakers, creators, and collectors. The culture won’t be bought for a DAO wallet that holders don’t truly get to benefit from. It will benefit the wallets and lives of its holders.
Imagine that the members of LitDAO want a song from their favorite artist or a clothing drop from the hottest label? Or if they want to promote the work of a talented member of the DAO or a struggling artist who doesn’t have the technological or financial capital to make it in web3?
Why shouldn’t the audience choose their own culture, rather than having it fed to them by those who are not even in the culture.
LITDAO can then budget this and select the means of distribution of this to the community, whether through mints, airdrops, events, mailings, and beyond.
