Sound from the Core
This might sound weird to some people, but I just had one of my most epiphanous moments (Epiphanous isn’t a word, why not!?).
After about a 2 hour practice session with my verses, I thought it’d be a good time to rest. Before resting I did some push-ups.
I usually don’t say anything when doing push-ups. This set was rare because each time I went down I said “승” and each time I went back up I said “리” (“승리” = Victory).
I don’t count how many push-ups I do. I go until failure. When I was struggling I would say something out-loud, for instances “너는 값져!” (You’re valuable) and “너 할수있어!” (You can do it).
During the last 5 or so push-ups, … the second syllable “리” was emphatic. With incredible ease, the sound erupted with clearness and richness. I was very alarmed by this. It really shook me that that sound came out so effortlessly.
I must point out that I was going out of breath. Trying to do 1 more pushed it all out of me. My voice didn’t come from my throat. It came from the core, my stomach area. I could be mistaken; maybe it was from my entire body.
Anyways, I’m going to repeat this way of doing push-ups (when nobody is at home…) because I can’t replicate the same sound right now.
Talk about self-exploration!
