Toward A Science of Intentional Change

I wish I wasn’t so jaded about collaboration, but as we’ve all seen time and time again, the underlying assumption is that all come to the table openly and honestly. The reality is, they don’t. Some come to “game the system.” For some problems, especially environmental ones, the players “reasonably” give up part of their initial, ridiculous demand and get everyone to come to agreement on some lesser option. Every. Single. Time. Resulting in death by a thousand little cuts. The baseline is moved so incrementally that no one notices that what we were fighting to preserve 20 years ago no longer exists. I think the time has come not to collaborate, but to draw a line in the sand.
