I am truly sorry about your bad experience with veteran FBI agents who took offense at your response. I will tell you a couple of things:

First, FBI agents are not allowed to be “political” when they are active because they must be seen to be “apolitical” when it comes to enforcing federal laws. So while we can vote, we cannot campaign or be active in any political movement. Therefore, when these agents retire, this is the first time they’ve been able to voice their opinions…still, no reason to be rude :-(

Second, there is a real undercurrent of hostility toward Hillary Clinton by agents because if any of us had done what she did (mishandled classified information) we would have 1) been fired, and 2) prosecuted. This is why there is bitter resentment and incredible dislike for her amongst many federal agents. FBI agents are pretty black and white: she broke the law and should be punished.

Regarding the danger posed by Russia, I worked against Russia as a counterintelligence agent for 20 years…yes, they pose a danger to the U.S. as does China and several other countries. Under Obama, the relationship between Russia and the U.S. has soured to the extent that it’s on the same par as back in the height of the Cold War. Having a better relationship with Trump than Clinton would not be difficult because Putin and Clinton hate each other.

As you say, it’s pointless to start predicting what a Trump presidency will look like because we don’t know! All these talking heads are making fools of themselves and generating unnecessary negativity by speculating what he will do and how he will do it…they’re desperate for paychecks :-(

And really, why does anyone think he will initiate repression against his opponents? Again, a bit of hysteria…
