Camera Lucida Prism Type

The camera lucida is an optical device used by artists and draughtsmen to help them accurately depict and trace images. There are several types of camera lucida, including the prism type.

The prism-type camera lucida typically consists of a prism or a combination of prisms that redirect the light rays coming from the subject being observed. The prism(s) are positioned in such a way that they allow the artist to simultaneously see the subject and the drawing surface. By superimposing the subject’s image onto the drawing surface, the artist can trace or sketch the image with greater accuracy.
