Introduction

The Federal Reserve and government face a significant challenge: navigating an unsustainable debt path that has been a long-standing concern. This issue, emphasised recently by Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell, is not a novel revelation but rather a persistent topic that the Federal Reserve has been acutely aware of for decades.

Understanding the Current Debt Crisis

See, on the surface, it may seem that the debt path of the United States has only recently been a major concern for media outlets and government officials alike, but this is far from the truth. The Fed specifically, has been well aware of the mounting issue and how it would quickly materialise into a catastrophe. It is only of recent measure, that Chairman Powell has come out and directly addressed the gravity of the U.S. debt situation.

“The U.S. is on an unsustainable debt path,” — said Powell in his 60 minute interview at the start of the year.
