Don’t let others control your happiness.

It’s simple. Only you can make yourself happy. Only you should make yourself happy.

I’m not saying that everyone else is bad news and that they don’t want you to be happy. Some people are the reasons why you’re happy and smiling everyday. And we are all greatful for those kind of people.

What I’m saying though is that you should not give all the power to your happiness to one particular person or moment. For example, stop thinking “If this person doesn’t like me, I’m over. I’m going to be sad for the rest of my life!” or “If I don’t get this job, it’s over. My life is over.” Sure, those events might be sad. But don’t let them be the only things that can make you happy. Don’t put all your hopes and dreams on this one particular person or situation. And don’t be depressed about it if it doesn’t happen or they end up disappointing you. It’s not that tragic. You’ll find someone else. You’ll find another job. You can do this! And you know why? Because you hold the key to your own happiness. Only you can make yourself happy. Only you can find another way to have a job that makes you happy. Only you can find another person that makes you happy. Only you can make yourself see the positives in a bad situation. Only you can make you get back up and fight again. You know yourself better than anyone else. So you know what makes you happy more than anyone else. You just have to find your happiness in any situation and in anybody. You have the control over what/who makes you happy and why, not the other way around.
