5 Crazy Laws that Actually Exist in Alabama
1 min readMay 5, 2016
We know the state of Alabama can be crazy, but some of our laws — actually passed through Congress — are out in left field.
- You can legally marry your first cousin and other distant relatives. Incestuous marriage is alive.
- Don’t operate a vehicle while blindfolded. Why that needs to be a law, we aren’t sure. So, if you ever see this — and we hope you don’t — call the police.
- You better watch what you do on Sunday. Thinking about a round of cards and board games? That’s illegal! Section 13A-12–1 forbids a wide range of activities on Sunday. You could be in jail for up to three months!
- If you need to take a shortcut, you can go down the wrong way of a one-way street. Just be sure you attach a lantern to the front of the car… really.
- You think you can take on a bear? You probably shouldn’t anyway, but it’s also illegal. Wresting a bear has long been against the law in Alabama. How weird is that?
