My cousin had a similar experience. He was in the Wimbledon youth team but couldn’t crack the first team and this was around the time the club had their financial issues. Things went south and he realized he wasn’t going to cut it. He was smart enough to have saved up some cash. Immediately he quit football, he became a fireman and invested in property. He also took up coaching at a school and he now runs his agency.

A law has to be put in place to ensure all youth systems adequately educate these young professionals. Financial literacy is also key. They also need to be constantly reminded of the possibility of not making it as adult professionals. It can help most of them have a back up plan.

If football is all these guys know maybe their exit still has to be football.
