I agree that a lot of material on the platform doesn’t quite qualify as content, but it’s not about creating a lip-sync revolution, it’s about kids being able to easily make “content” to entertain their friends. These kids aren’t trying to be musicians, just like most Instagram users aren’t trying to become photographers. They’re sharing photos and videos for the purpose of entertaining their peers. Every kid who makes a dumb joke in front of their friends isn’t “one of how-ever-many million nothings” trying to become a renown comedian — they’re just trying to make their friends laugh. Similarly, each kid posting a video on musical.ly isn’t “one of 90 million nothings” each trying to become “One Something;” they’re just one of 90 million kids trying to entertain their friends by making a lip sync video.
