The problem is with neither those who took him “seriously, but not literally” nor with those who took him “literally, but not seriously.” Although those two camps are large and wide, the real, insidious and dangerous result of this election is that we’ve empowered a group of voters (the ones who put him over the top), who took him both literally AND seriously.
