I’m not here to tell you whether the new $299 iPad 9.7 is right for your school or for education, in general. Every student is different, so is every class, school, and district. Their needs vary as much as do their budgets.

Apple’s more affordable and powerful 9.7-inch iPad may very well be the perfect choice for your fifth grader, but her school and teachers may prefer Google Chromebooks and Google Docs.

The new Apple iPad 9.7 is 0.29-inches thick and weighs 1.03 lbs.

Here’s what I can tell you: The sleek, 1 lb., 0.29-inch thick Apple iPad is an extremely versatile information, learning, creativity, and entertainment device. It’s not a big leap forward like the first iPhone or iPad or even as much of an incremental one as the iPad Pro. Instead, this iPad is a much-needed step forward with ample power for everything from presentations to augmented-reality and with impressive utility in touch and, now, Pencil input.

iOS 11 made the iPad a multi-taking master.

Of course, at least half the credit for the iPad’s improved education prowess surely goes…
