When I was young, my father was very into cameras and had all manner of pocket, folding, large, and mid-format cameras. His prize possession, at the time, was a Bronica camera. I remember it was hefty and square with a large, curious lens. It was also reminiscent of a much more expensive and prized medium format camera: the Hasselblad, a camera he and every photo nerd worth their weight in developer solution wanted. I was less aware of the brand’s already storied photographic history. As most people know, the 80-year-old company is, in part, responsible for some of the most iconic images of the 20th century. Hasselblad built the cameras that Neil Armstrong used in 1969 to photograph fellow astronaut Buzz Aldrin on the moon.

Hasselblad has a less storied history with the mobile phone industry, lending its name to an insanely expensive Vertu phone in 2014 and, more recently to one of Motorola’s Moto backs (they popped on and off Motorial phones but never caught on).

Now, however, I think Hasselblad has found a marriage made in mobile heaven, teaming up for a three-year agreement with OnePlus.
