Setting: Diner

You will need: Food, Coffee, Clean Diner, Pie, Camera, Prompts, 5 people

People: 1 Yes voter (Dundee), 1 Remain voter (Oxford), 1 Leave voter (Sunderland), 1 European Citizen, and a mediator

Make sure the Diner is CLEAN. Dirty diners convey dead cousins and great regrets, I’ve been there. Clean diners convey reconciliation and good food. Let the 4 choose whether they want to eat alone or with others. It’s your food, but they are volunteering their time for this film. The food shouldn’t be heavy, but not light either. It’s not a free lunch if it’s not lunch. Provide plenty of coffee and water. Make sure the camera is discreet, they aren’t actors.

After they finish their food, take them all to a nicer, bigger table. Where they will discuss the prompts. Each discussion should be 30 minutes to an hour. The goal is CONSENSUS

Prompt 1: Brexit has happened, but the UK and Scottish Government decide to postpone another referendum until 2030. What kind of country would you make in the mean time?

Prompt 2 : The UK and the EU are having trouble agreeing on what should be done. You have been asked to mediate both groups and come up with a shared solution.

Prompt 3: Explain to each other what you all want in the future, and what you want now.

Prompt 4: You’ve now done 3 important Prompts. Do you feel better for doing this?

The mediator is the most important role, he is there to make sure nobody goes off on a tangent or cause a ruckus. On a topic as emotional as Brexit every body needs equal say and empathy. You need somebody that can help create empathy for each other. No matter how bad it goes, serve the damn pie and interview them again to see if this exercise had any good effects.

PS: if you think this is an inauthentic attempt to Hal Riney everybody into loving each other. You’d be right.
