McCain deserves the honors he received, and Trump once again has shown what a narcissistic weasel he is. One thing that always strikes me about McCain’s Vietnam war experience is that at that time he might have been condemned for killing Vietnamese in an unjust war. Now there is no mention of that, he is a “hero” to all (except Trump), especially because of his suffering and refusal to leave his fellow prisoners. He certainly demonstrated more courage than Trump back then, who faked his way out of service, or Bush, whose Daddy made sure he got a cushy stateside job. But where does that leave our opinion of those who protested an unnecessary war and often paid a heavy price? Was what they did heroic? Can both be heroes?
