Perhaps President Obama should nominate Mitch McConnell to the Court.
From The Washington Post:
Senate Republicans on Tuesday united behind an official position on how to deal with President Obama’s expected nominee to replace the late Supreme Court justice Antonin Scalia: no hearings, no votes and no new justice until Obama is out of office.
“Presidents have a right to nominate, just as the Senate has its constitutional right to provide or withhold consent,” Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said in a morning floor speech. “In this case, the Senate will withhold it.”
Perhaps Obama should nominate Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell himself to fill the opening. (In case you were wondering, you don’t have to be a judge to become a Supreme Court Justice; you don’t even have to be an attorney.)
Might the Republicans then back off from their “No confirmation!” stance, following the logic that they are free to change their minds?
How could they not?
Then Obama could withdraw the nomination, also having changed his mind.
Oh, might the fingers wag and point!
The government would still be dysfunctional, but the public might see that Congressional leaders ARE actually wearing clown suits.
