A wonderful conversation with a person trying to make a difference
I blog every day on From Drunk to Monk.

Lessons
People are trying to make a difference everywhere. Those efforts come in many different forms. It might be something as simple as being willing to talk about things. I thanked someone at work yesterday for being willing to talk about depression and suicide. Out there, on the shop floor, standing beside a press we had the most unlikely of conversations. Why does it have to be unlikely? Two people sharing their stories and being just a little bit closer as a result. I ask again…why does that have to be unlikely?
I learned that Google has a Fonts API. Which basically means its a online collection of fonts that you can easily use in your website. https://www.google.com/fonts. I was experimenting with this as I worked on The Book of Open last night. I decided on Poiret One which I think is beautiful.
The Book of Open
The site is now up and live. By live I mean, up and sitting there incomplete :) I’ve been thinking a lot about what I want this to be. I need to create a mission statement so the purpose is laser focused. In my heart I know that sharing stories will help the people sharing them as well as the people reading them. I want it to be OK to share our journeys.
I’ve been thinking about having a standard format for the stories so the flow is familiar. This is what I have so far:
- basis
- angst
- events
- moral
I also designed a logo which I think looks really nice. I obviously found the image but I selected the font and lined them all up together in a way that speaks to me:

I will talking to a friend tonight and I will ask him if he will share his story. He is going to be my guinea pig — whether he likes it or not :)
Exercise
I went to the gym at lunch yesterday and did: 7 sets of dumbbell flyes, 8 sets of cable flyes and 5 sets of dips. Then I came home and did 15 sets of kettlebell squats with the 61 pounders. I was going to do thrusters but I forgot. I started watching The Fosters with the kids while I was working out and got distracted. It was a lot of fun.
Gratitude
I am grateful that Tanja and I have such an open relationship and talk to each other about everything.
I am grateful that I had that conversation at work yesterday. It made an impact on me.
I am grateful that I am working on a project that I believe in my heart is going to help people.
I am grateful for today. What are you grateful for?
