Upgrade Your Super Juice — What ingredients do you find in a super juice
So today, we are going to make a Super Juice!
What makes it super, I hear you ask? Well, personally I think any juice full of fresh veggies and fruit is pretty super. It tastes super, and makes you feel super. Hence, Super Juice!
I’m going to cover three topics today….. First up is what equipment you need…..
Equipment
Juicers fall into two main categories….. centrifugal juicers and masticating juicers.
Centrifugal juicers basically shred produce, then spin it to extract the juice. Masticating juicers squeeze the produce to extract the juice, and can deal better with soft fruits.
Centrifugal juicers tend to be cheaper and have a smaller footprint than masticating juicers.
If you do your research, there are folk out there who will tell you that masticating juicers are ‘better for you’, in terms of the juice they produce. However, they are no good for you at all if you don’t use them!
If you are just getting into juicing then I would recommend a juicer such as the Phillips HR1867.
It’s sensibly priced and takes up very little room on your work surface. If you leave it out all the time you are much more likely to use it. It has a wide chute to take things like apples whole, saving on prep time, and it’s a doddle to clean.
The centrifugal juicers are excellent at juicing hard produce such as apples, pears, carrots and celery. However, they do not handle ‘soft’ ingredients well, for example raspberries, banana or avocado.
If you would like to include these in your drinks, juice your other ingredients first, then blend your juice with your soft ingredients using your Nutribullet or stick blender.
Next up, what should you juice?
Ingredients
There are a LOT of recipe books and websites out there dedicated to juicing, but I pretty much juice whatever I find in the fridge.
I do try to have more veg than fruit, and there are two key ingredients I always try to include.
The first is raw beetroot. You don’t need to peel it, I just chop the leaves off and pop it in whole. One of the problems with juices is that if you are adding lots of greens (which you should be doing :) they can come out a bit of a muddy brown colour, which isn’t very attractive.
But if you add beetroot, your juice will be a lovely pink or red colour, every time!
The second ingredient I always add is ginger. Mostly because I love ginger! It does make anything taste amazing, and does a great job of masking the ‘earthy’ taste of the beetroot.
When it comes to the juicing, pop any leafy greens down the chute first (before switching it on) with an apple or similar on top to push the leaves through.
Then just pop the rest of your ingredients down the chute and in seconds you will have a lovely fresh Super Juice.
My Favourite Juice?
Normally a combo of apple, pear, carrot, celery, spinach, beetroot and ginger.
Upgrades…..
Your juice is already Super, but you can upgrade it further.
You could add a scoop of a supergreens Powder, such as Lean Greens to it.
Or try adding some organic turmeric. Just empty one of the capsules from Lean Greens Amber Boost product in as well.
With both of these, add your fresh juice to a shaker bottle, add your upgrades, and give it a good shake to mix well.
That’s it from me on juicing…… let me know what your favourite juice is, and if there is some super juice gadget I should be checking out!
