Talking with Massachusetts science teachers has given us lots of ideas!

Image shows a table with the Phenomena logo and several computers displaying experiences.

Today we attended our very first conference! We got to spend the day meeting some amazing science teachers at the 2022 Massachusetts Science Teachers Association conference. A huge thank you to this year’s conference organizers for having us!

We were happy to see teachers excited about our experiences (the FREE part didn’t hurt, either!) and we got some great suggestions for new topics. Look for those ideas on our New Topic Leaderboard, and let us know what you think!

There is no shortage of challenges facing teachers this year, even as the COVID pandemic restrictions ease and students are largely back in the classroom. The teachers we spoke to talked about the need for experiential learning to engage their students and build back learning gaps that have developed over the last two years of the pandemic. We hope that Phenomena can play a part in supporting teachers in this critical work.

We also had the pleasure of getting to know several other organizations and the great work they’re doing to promote teaching critical topics like climate change, energy and identity in STEM classrooms. We’re big fans of the MIT Environmental Solutions Initiative and their Today I Learned (TIL) Climate podcast that brings climate change to kids throughout K-12 classrooms with fun and interesting stories. We also got to know the incredible teacher duo behind Unboxing Scientists of the World, a series of videos sharing the stories of famous scientists (especially women and people of color) throughout history. We really enjoyed talking with the folks from the Advanced Regenerative Manufacturing Institute in New Hampshire about how interactive experiences enhance career and technical education programs.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth to chat today. Conferences are so great for meeting new people and gathering new and creative ideas. Our wheels are definitely spinning!

Didn’t make it to the MAST conference this year? You can still send us your feedback at people@phenomenalearning.com. We’d love to hear from you!
