Euro NCAP have a 5 star safety rating system to help customers such as businesses, families and consumers so they can identify the safest vehicle for their needs. Various safety tests are carried out by Euro NCAP which replicate real life scenarios that could happen.

“The more stars the better.”

  • 5 Stars: Overall good performance in crash protection. Well equipped with robust crash avoidance technology.
  • 4 Stars: Overall good performance in crash protection. Additional crash avoidance technology may be present.
  • 3 Stars: Average to good occupant protection but lacking crash avoidance technology.
  • 2 Stars: Nominal crash protection but lacking crash avoidance technology.
  • 1 Star: Marginal crash protection.

Euro NCAP do not test every new car that comes onto the market & not all the variants of each car. To provide the largest range of information for the consumer, every year a selection is made of the most popular or interesting models.

Land Rover Discovery Sport.

The Land Rover Discovery Sport scored 5 stars in the Euro NCAP safety rating. Safety equipment for frontal crash protection includes front airbag for driver and passenger. Belt pretensioner is only available for driver and passenger. Belt load limiter is offered for driver, passenger and rear. Knee airbag is offered for the driver only. Lateral crash protection includes side head airbag for the driver and passenger but no side pelvis airbag. Child protection includes Isofix in the rear only, but an airbag cut off switch is offered for the passenger. Seat belt reminder is included for driver, passenger and rear. Other safety features include:

  • ESC.
  • AEB City.
  • AEB Inter-urban.
  • Speed Assistance. (Available as an option.)

The Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class scored 5 stars. Frontal crash protection includes front airbags for driver and passenger. Belt pretensioner and load limiter is offered for the driver, passenger and rear. Knee airbag is offered to the driver only. Lateral crash protection offers side head, side chest and side pelvis airbag for driver & passenger but is not offered in rear.
