Leep Network: Sustainability via Blockchain.
This release is the first part of a series of articles that will explain Leep Network’s Sustainability initiatives. Our main focus is to enable, shape and mold our sustainable future through passion, dedication, and leveraging blockchain technology for a purposeful, positive impact on the human experience and Ecological sector. We believe this technology can be a disruptive force that will influence and aid institutions, governments, and organizations into changing their infrastructure and processes for a more sustainable future.
What is sustainable?
Leep Network prides itself on catering, breathing and developing for the ultimate end goal; sustainability. However, what is the definition of sustainability?
“Sustainability means meeting our own needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. In addition to natural resources, we also need social and economic resources. Sustainability is not just environmentalism. Embedded in most definitions of sustainability we also find concerns for social equity and economic development.”
The United Nations
For sustainability, 3 pillars are key to being able to make this a reality.
Ecological integrity is maintained, all of earth’s environmental systems are kept in balance while natural resources within them are consumed by humans at a rate where they are able to replenish themselves.
Human communities across the globe are able to maintain their independence and have access to the resources that they require, financial and other, to meet their needs. Economic systems are intact and activities are available to everyone, such as secure sources of livelihood.
Universal human rights and basic necessities are attainable by all people, who have access to enough resources in order to keep their families and communities healthy and secure. Healthy communities have just leaders who ensure personal, labour and cultural rights are respected and all people are protected from discrimination.
Sustainability is the process of living within the limits of available physical, natural and social resources in ways that allow the living systems in which humans are embedded to thrive in perpetuity.
Leep Network is committed towards making blockchain ready to fit sustainability and aid all projects that share the vision of improving aspects of the world we all live in.
Since the definition of sustainable is broad and all encompassing, it’s important to have an ultimate goal that we are collectively working towards. While having diverse motivations, it all comes down to one vision.
We feel it’s our obligation to pass the World on to our next generations in a healthy state.
There has been a big movement towards sustainability in the last years and we feel blockchain can help accelerate and improve in ways nobody has been able to achieve so far.
In September 2018, PwC in collaboration with the World Economic Forum System Initiative on Shaping the Future of Environment and National Resource Security and Stanford Woods Institute for the Environment, published a paper “Fourth Industrial Revolution for the Earth Series; Building block(chain)s for a better planet”.
They state that the majority of the world’s current environmental problems can be traced back to industrialization. This has delivered impressive gains in human progress and prosperity, but also led to unintended consequences on climate change, air pollution, depletion of forestry, fishing and freshwater stocks, toxins in rivers and soils, overflowing levels of waste on land and in oceans, and loss of biodiversity and habits. These are just a few examples of the negative impact of human progress on our Earth.
The fourth industrial revolution consists of emerging new technologies such as Virtual Reality, Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence and Blockchain.
In order to maximise the positive impact of these technologies, it will require pro-active collaboration amongst the industry, civil society, ecology experts and ourselves. As the PwC rapport notes;
“If we get it right, it could create a sustainability revolution.”
Blockchain has tremendous potential to positively impact environmental sustainability. It’s more than just a digital currency. It can, and will transform and improve existing processes in business, governance and society.
Leep Network will aim to solve existing problems instead of creating solutions for problems that are not here yet. While there are obvious and substantial risks in blockchain technology, we will manage, tackle and overcome problems throughout our entire process.
Leep Network is a scalable, secure, ACID-compliant Smart Contract platform for Sustainable Business. Our truly unique approach and implementations of various technologies have led us to the creation of a network infrastructure that actually works for business, while blockchain technologies thus far have had limitations and impediments. Leep Network has focused on the pitfalls that stand in the way of mass adoption of this technology, and we provide a platform that is flexible for integration for developers, with upgradable smart contracts and fortified security. We encourage, aid, and support the development of feasible software solutions that address issues that intend to improve the global ecology the and human experience.
