I built app inspired by my island — and no, it has nothing to do with weed.

First of all, respect and manners to everyone for reading.

The Intro…

My name is Leian Ivey, and I am a “developer”. I’ve been a in the tech and marketing industry for a little over 15 years now. And I must admit I love it more today than ever did.

My career choices have allowed me to be a successful Graphic Designer, Illustrator, SEO Specialist, Social Media Marketer, Affiliate Marketer, Web Developer, WordPress Developer (yes, we should separate this), Systems Admin, Dev Ops, Technical Consultant, Photographer, Mobile Developer, and Application Developer. Needless to say — I have some proud parents and made a lot of friends along the way.

Let’s reason for a bit…

I say all of this because I think I can relate a bit to everyone here, especially freelancers.

I’ve started 90% of my freelance projects within a day or 2 day of it being due.

I’ve started new seasons of hit shows on Netflix and missed important business meetings. (Most recently “The Ranch”)

I’ve bought very expensive tools to start new projects which I never used after that project. (Selling my Bamboo Tablet — used only once since 2014)

Though no matter what, I got the job done.

That guiding light…

If you were raised in a single parent household and witnessed your mother or father work tirelessly, day in and day out, then you know the spirit. So for those of you who don’t.

The spirit of my island is similar to the spirit of a mother raising her first child. It is loving, caring, nurturing and thoughtful. It’s the warm kind of spirit where you know instantly — this is a good thing.

And like the mothers who raise their children to be strong young men and women — it is fierce. It does not deal with failure because it has no time for it. There is a way to accomplish all your goals. And given time, you will, if you have the spirit necessary.

In today’s modern society, you can see this spirit in a lot of freelancers.

Over 54 million reported freelancers in the US.

Think about that.

Over 54 million people have all had the same epiphany. “I can do this at home”, “I can work in comfort doing what I love, for who I love, and be there for me and my family”.

So about last night…

Unlike any other career, freelancing has its ups and downs. And it’s not uncommon that a freelancer would make $5,000 one month and $100 the next.

Time and time again I have lost $XXXX on a project because we could not reach an agreement in the contract or there was simply no contract available. Also clients would dispute charges if I sent them a high priced invoice and all they would see is a website / app, because they don’t know all the work that went into it.

And really, creating contracts and invoices can be very time consuming.

To me, a freelancers most valuable asset is time.

Which is why last night I decided to share what I’ve been working on with my friends and family.

Finally, a tool…

Over the past couple months I have been building a tool that will help freelancers, manage their clients, projects, invoices, contracts, and budgets in one place.

Kingston Project is a business management tool for freelancers. Our contracts and invoice templates are aimed at assisting Web Designers, Web Developers, Photographers, and Content Writers. I do plan on expanding this in the future to include more careers.

Kindly note that this tool is still in testing and the final release version will have a lot more to offer.

Including the one thing every freelancer truly wants their project management tool to do.
